About The Position

An Instructional Teacher Assistant in the Exceptional Children’s Department must be committed to serving our neediest students with a wide range of disabilities and special needs including all aspects of student access to their educational environment.

Requirements

  • Must ALSO complete a BUS DRIVER APPLICATION (Position#540001) before you will be considered for employment in a Teacher Assistant position.
  • Driving a school bus is an essential function of this job.
  • Must provide an Official Seal Transcript showing at least 48 SEMESTER HOURS from a Community College or a Four Year University.
  • High School diploma and a minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework is required.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the educational development of pupils under the direction of the EC teacher.
  • Assist in the monitoring of Individual Education Programs for students progress.
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
  • Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists, regular education and special education teachers.
  • Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student data records.
  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of the EC teacher.
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning.
  • Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Assist the EC teacher to ensure that all instructional materials and equipment are available.
  • Coordinate with other professionals to utilize instructional aids and equipment.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff to provide student support through personal care needs in order for them to fully access the educational environment.
  • Utilize Behavior Intervention and Crisis Prevention training to de-escalate and intervene for students with behavioral difficulties.
  • Other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Exceptional Children in the provision of student service provision.
  • Obtain and maintain a bus license.
  • Supervise EC students in all settings of the school environment.
  • Attend trainings and staff development as determined appropriate by the principal and EC Director.
  • Serve as a monitor for significantly needy students in transition and transport.
