The Exceptional Children Program Specialist supports the implementation, compliance, and continuous improvement of special education services across the district. This role works in collaboration with the Director of Exceptional Children to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., IDEA, FERPA) while strengthening instructional practices for students with disabilities. The specialist provides ongoing coaching, technical assistance, and professional development to special education teachers, with a focus on developing high-quality Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), delivering effective specially designed instruction (SDI), and utilizing student data to inform instructional decisions. The position also serves as a liaison between schools and the district EC department, offering guidance on ECATS, compliance procedures, and best practices in instruction and intervention. Additionally, the EC Program Specialist mentors beginning teachers, supports classroom organization and instructional design, monitors program implementation, and contributes to long-range planning efforts to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
