EWP Designer Trainee – Entry-Level Launch your technical career in the building materials industry - no experience required! Bring your curiosity and eagerness to learn! What You’ll Do (You’ll Learn All of This on the Job): Learn how buildings come together, specifically the structural framing of residential, commercial, and multi-family projects. Use design software to create framing layouts and material lists using BlueLinx Engineered Wood Products. Gain hands-on experience using member sizing software, span tables, and load-development concepts to select the right materials for each job. Communicate with builders, architects, dealers, and internal teams about design solutions. Start by inputting basic wall and beam layouts, grow into creating complete structural framing layouts. Assist with project documentation, reporting, and general office support as needed. What You Bring: We don’t expect you to know everything, we’ll teach you. But here are the foundational skills that help you succeed: Associate degree or higher, professional certification, or relevant practical experience Exposure to CAD or similar software (highly preferred) Ability to read or interpret architectural drawings is a plus Strong spatial awareness (thinking in 3D) Ability to manage multiple projects and stay organized Curious mindset — asks questions, takes initiative, enjoys learning Detail-oriented, accurate, and efficient Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Your First 90–120 Days: We’ll guide you through a structured hands-on training plan. By the end of your initial ramp-up, you will be able to: Read and interpret blueprints Understand structural load concepts Size joists and beams using iStruct and other tools Demonstrate strong progress using isPlan design software Apply spatial reasoning to create complete framing layouts Why BlueLinx?
