Under the supervision of the Manager of Dietary and Environmental Services, the Environmental Services (EVS) Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is essential to infection prevention and patient safety and requires attention to detail, consistency, and a positive, service-oriented approach. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Current AHA BLS (Heart Saver) certification required
- Basic computer skills (email, electronic health records)
- Hospital and clinic settings with frequent interruptions
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and cleaning agents
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 51–100 pounds
- Requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Nice To Haves
- Hospital Environmental Services experience preferred, but not required
- CHEST certification preferred, but not required
Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, clinical areas, offices, and public spaces following established infection control protocols
- Perform terminal cleaning of discharged patient rooms
- Properly collect, handle, and dispose of waste, including biohazardous materials
- Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure proper storage and labeling of cleaning solutions
- Track cleaning solutions by open and expiration dates
- Distribute clean linens to assigned patient care areas
- Clean and sanitize medical equipment as assigned
- Follow safety procedures when handling chemicals and hazardous materials
- Maintain assigned areas in a clean, hazard-free condition
- Interact respectfully and professionally with patients, visitors, and staff
- Complete assigned duties efficiently and on schedule
