About The Position

The position is for a full-time Environmental Services staff member at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The role involves working the second shift from 5 PM to 1:30 AM on weekdays, totaling 40 hours a week, with a requirement to work every other weekend and rotating holidays from 3 PM to 11:30 PM. The pay range for this position is between $19.45 and $29.20 per hour. The primary responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the hospital environment, operating various cleaning equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations. The role also emphasizes customer satisfaction and teamwork within the hospital setting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of prior housekeeping experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to operate small electrical equipment such as vacuum cleaners.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and comprehending chemical labels and safety materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a healthcare environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Scrub, strip, polish, and refinish floors using appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Operate various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical, such as ringers, vacuums, electric floor machines, and sweepers.
  • Clean or sanitize after emergency spills as requested.
  • Analyze floor or carpet conditions and determine proper cleaning techniques, following department processes.
  • Maintain hard surface floors and carpets according to department processes.
  • Exhibit timely and satisfactory completion of all job assignments.
  • Exercise initiative by seeking additional tasks from group leaders or other associates when time permits.
  • Use and maintain equipment, keeping it clean and in good repair, and keep the work area orderly, clean, and safe.
  • Dispose of waste in a timely manner to assure hospital cleanliness.
  • Collect hazardous and medical waste according to hospital processes and training provided.
  • Replace and transport sharps containers to the waste staging area.
  • Collect soiled linen and remove rubbish from selected areas, following safety guidelines.
  • Separate regular and recycle trash according to procedure and operate waste compactors safely and efficiently.
  • Clean and/or sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction and maintain a positive attitude towards patients and hospital personnel.
  • Utilize AIDET with both internal and external customers, meeting system goals.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively with fellow associates.
  • Provide support for arranging furniture for meetings and workshops as required.
  • Complete terminal cleans as needed and be cross-trained on discharge room cleans and OR cleaning to accommodate hospital needs during peak periods.
  • Attend all mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and in-services, and complete annual CBTs required.
  • Follow written department goals and objectives, and review them annually with the manager.
  • Maintain proper attendance as outlined in the Hospital Policy and Procedure Manual.
