About The Position

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is a university-based regional health care system focused on serving the health care needs of Maryland. UMMS was created in 1984 when the state owned University Hospital became a private, non-profit organization. It has since evolved into a $5.07 billion academic health system reaching every part of the state and beyond with nationally recognized and ranked specialties in trauma, cancer care, cardiology, and orthopedics. As one of the largest private employers in the state, the health system's more than 27,000 employees and 5,500 affiliated physicians provide primary and specialty care in more than 150 locations and across 8 member organizations (10 hospitals; 2,458 licensed beds) and five freestanding medical facilities. Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in a healthcare system or related complex healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading a hospital division or health system function at scale.
  • Proficient in driving financial outcomes and communicating them to key stakeholders.
  • Experience leading critical enterprise-wide initiatives that mobilize people and resources.
  • Track record of attracting and building strong and diverse leadership teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership in driving significant organizational change or business transformation.
  • Experience with key external stakeholders to advance organizational priorities.
  • Background working with boards and board committees.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and drive the operational performance of multiple member organizations within the healthcare system.
  • Collaborate closely with the EVP of the Academic Division to expand the academic medicine strategy across UMMS.
  • Ensure current initiatives are completed successfully while defining new initiatives to achieve strategic goals.
  • Drive operational performance, improve patient outcomes, and ensure financial sustainability across UMMS.
  • Engage with the boards of directors at each member organization to ensure alignment with the system's broader mission and goals.

Benefits

  • Salary of $600,000-$800,000 plus Executive Benefits.
