About The Position

The Eviction Prevention Caseworker for the Stable Families Program at New Reach is responsible for providing housing stabilization support to households at risk of eviction and homelessness in Bridgeport, CT. This role involves working closely with low-income families, particularly those residing in public housing or subsidized housing, to prevent evictions and promote long-term stability. The caseworker will act as the first point of contact for clients, offering advocacy, housing counseling, and community linkages to support housing stabilization. The position requires a commitment to innovative and equitable methods to inspire lasting independence for individuals and families affected by homelessness and poverty.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Human Services or related field, or an associate degree with two years of human services experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide intensive and comprehensive services to housing crisis households.
  • High level of organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation with proof of insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Accept referrals from local and regional sources including community residents, 211, housing authorities, landlords, legal aid entities, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Initiate contact with referred households to describe program services, assess eligibility, complete intakes, and begin service assessments.
  • Co-create person-centered goal plans with clients and involved parties.
  • Provide intensive home and community-based case management services including coaching, mentoring, crisis intervention, and advocacy.
  • Engage with property managers/owners to advocate for housing rights and mediate housing concerns.
  • Assist clients with stabilizing housing through mediation, legal representation linkage, affordable housing searches, and tenancy skill building.
  • Identify unaddressed needs of clients and facilitate engagement in appropriate services related to benefits, employment, education, and health.
  • Maintain positive communication with program partners and support networks to enhance housing retention.
  • Utilize HMIS database and other tools to document assessments, case notes, and client outcomes.
  • Participate in meetings and community outreach events as assigned.
  • Develop a strong community profile with various service providers as an advocate for clients.
