If this resonates with you, consider the role below: WHAT WE OFFER: Paid internship Paid parking with 24/7 access Hands-on experience assisting with meetings, conventions, and partner-related events JOB HIGHLIGHTS POSITION PURPOSE: The Events Internship provides hands-on experience within Visit Detroit’s Meetings, Conventions, and Partner Engagement efforts during the spring and summer season (May–August). This role offers meaningful exposure to the planning, coordination, and execution of meetings and conventions that bring thousands of visitors to the Detroit region. LOCATION & SCHEDULE: Part-Time; Non-Exempt Summer Internship 28 hours per week from May to August. Before or during events, hours may exceed 40 hours in one week and could involve some nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to clearly express thoughts, ideas, and concepts, verbally and in writing, in the English language.
  • Skilled in organizing, prioritizing, and analyzing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to think and manage creatively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains a positive and professional work attitude, appearance, and behavior even in the most demanding situation.
  • Ability to work effectively in both remote and in-person work environment; proficient using video conferencing software and other remote work tools.
  • Proficient in using personal computer software and applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Available weekends and outside of normal work hours for assignments and travel, as needed.
  • Office work involves extended periods of sitting or working at a desk, utilizing repetitive typing motions on a computer or laptop, and reading text on a video display monitor.
  • Ability to perform extensive standing and/or walking for work-related assignments and events.
  • Ability to lift push, and or carry up to 40lbs. occasionally
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Occasional work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of a combination of formal education and work experience.
  • Hospitality or event planning experience/education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Events team in planning and executing meetings, conventions, and partner-related events.
  • Assist with event preparation, including assembling materials and organizing supplies.
  • Support on-site event operations as needed, including registration, attendee assistance, and ensuring events run smoothly and professionally.
  • Learn and assist with basic front desk responsibilities.
  • Support the preparation and submission of industry award applications.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to hospitality, customer service, and professionalism while representing the organization to partners, clients, and guests.
  • Assist with general administrative duties within the Events teams.
  • Complete special projects assigned by the Senior Director of Events.
