About The Position

The Event Staff position at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is designed for skilled service professionals who are passionate about creating memorable experiences for guests during events. The position is non-exempt, allowing for flexible scheduling and the opportunity to work up to 28 hours per week, contributing to the museum's mission of providing exceptional service in a vibrant and inclusive environment.

Requirements

• Excellent interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor with guests and employees.
• Ability to read and follow basic floor plans, menus, and instructions.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to maintain a professional appearance during events.
• Punctuality and reliability for scheduled shifts.
• Physical ability to stand or walk for up to 10 hours and lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Prior fine dining or food service experience, particularly in event service.
• Knowledge of fine dining, beer, wine, and food.
• ServSafe certification.

Responsibilities

• Set up event areas according to specifications, including linens, lighting, and décor.
• Anticipate and accommodate guest needs, responding to requests in a professional manner.
• Serve food and beverages to guests, replenishing stations as needed.
• Support other event-related activities as required.
• Break down event areas and return them to pre-event status.
