About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire an Event and Shooting Sport Coordinator.  The person in this position plans, evaluates and travels statewide to attend and present departmental programs and special events sponsored by the agency; develops numerous Outdoor Recreation and Retention programs to facilitate events related to fishing, goose, pheasant and deer hunting, sport clay shoots, outdoors and other recreational functions for the department’s constituents, serves as State Coordinator for the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP); operate vehicles and heavy-duty trucks with attached trailers. As lead worker this position will determine the need for seasonal staff, volunteers and vendors on an annual basis. We welcome all interested candidates to apply today.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college with courses in journalism, English or public speaking.
  • Requires two years of supervisory experience or three years of professional experience in a public education and information program in a public or private agency.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires overtime after hours and on weekends
  • Requires ability to obtain and maintain a valid FOID card.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of professional experience coordinating the development and execution of programs and events, including logistics, working closely with vendors and equipment requests.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience providing training, instructing classes, or public speaking.
  • One (1) year of professional experience developing and managing a small agency or company functional program.
  • One (1) year of experience handling firearms and ammunition.

Responsibilities

  • Under administrative direction, organizes, plans, executes, controls, and evaluates statewide departmental programs and special events.
  • Secures and coordinates vendors and volunteer staff for events.
  • Research, track and purchase inventory assets for events.
  • Conduct studies to ensure quality of special events.
  • Acts as a lead worker / coordinator for seasonal staff, volunteers and/or vendors.
  • Assists with other department programs as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
