About The Position

The Event Planning Assistant provides marketing and organizational support to the annual Fire in the Pines Festival in Wilmington NC. This large environmental educational event is a community staple raising awareness about the benefits of controlled burning in the local area The Event Planning Assistant will help grow the annual Fire in the Pines Festival within the community and assist with marketing through social media and design. They will help coordinate with partner agencies in the organization and logistics of the festival. They will be responsible for maintenance of festival supplies and equipment. The Assistant has frequent interaction with staff throughout the program and with partner agencies. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, have excellent communication skills, and be able to develop relationships with exhibitors and community leaders. The ideal candidate should have exceptional communication and collaboration skills and experience in securing and transporting supplies and assisting staff. Requirements

  • Ability to learn procedures and follow instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must attend the Fire in the Pines Festival on October 10th, 2026.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.
  • Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers."
  • Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with web design.

Responsibilities

  • Does not supervise any staff
  • Duties are performed according to instructions or established practices; supervisor will resolve any problems or questions
  • May help plan the work of volunteers or interns
  • May purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in budget and in consultation with supervisor
  • May serve as a team member for assigned work teams
  • Travel occasionally to support fieldwork in remote and potentially dangerous sites
  • Work overtime as needed
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain
