About The Position

The Bothell & Cascadia Campus Library has an outstanding opportunity for an Evening & Sunday Public Services Lead to join their team. Under the supervision of the Head of Access Services and leadership of the Director of Public Services, this position provides circulation functions and assistance to library users. Leads daily operations for the Circulation unit and is responsible for maintaining the operations of the public service desk during the evenings, on Sundays, and in the absence of supervisors. Regular schedule is Monday - Thursday 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 and Sunday noon - 8:30; schedule may vary for intersessions, summers, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of applicable library technical experience, including one year beyond the entry level.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

  • Provides equitable, quality, user-centered service to members of diverse University and College communities and to the public
  • Provides routine and complex phone, email, and in-person assistance regarding circulation, study rooms, Reserves, interlibrary and intralibrary loan
  • Assists library users with general reference and information questions using basic tools; refers patrons to appropriate employees and units for other services
  • Refers users with technology questions to the Library’s Computing Help Desk; may support Student Technology Consultants as needed
  • Uses detailed knowledge of all Campus Library & UW Libraries policies and procedures to interpret and explain library services, procedures, rules, and policies; respond to library user concerns & complaints; and to make exceptions when appropriate.
  • Leads in the operation of the Circulation unit and contributes to the operations of the Campus Library
  • Responsible for the Circulation unit and public service desk during evening and Sunday hours.
  • Communicates issues to other staff as necessary
  • In collaboration with the Circulation Student Supervisor, Circulation Lead, and Head of Access Services, leads the daily work, special projects, and training for Circulation student employees
  • Leads the work of Library Technicians while working the Circulation Desk
  • Leads and participates in training activities and the development of training tools through the identification of needs; creates and maintains training materials and procedural documentation; and coordinates participation of other employees in these projects
  • Trains new employees on circulation tasks and procedures
  • Develops procedures for the position. Incorporates new policies and procedures into documentation.
  • Serves as a primary evacuation and emergency contact on Sundays and during evening hours. In exceptional circumstances, may handle building security and safety circumstances and communicates these circumstances with Campus Safety, Facilities, Executive Team, Head of Access Services, Library Technology Services, Library Administration and other staff as necessary
  • In collaboration with Library Administration, may assist with routine building maintenance walk throughs
  • Works with other Libraries staff, departments and committees to keep current with trends in order to effectively recommend and implement improvements of unit procedures
  • Coordinates Campus Library staffing, updates documentation, and records statistics for special events, outreach activities, and assessment efforts (i.e. Extended Study Nights, Building Counts)
  • Creates and updates the weekly Circulation Desk schedule
  • In collaboration with the Head of Access Services and Circulation Student Supervisor, modifies the desk schedule and Circulation Student Employee schedules as needed to address day-to-day absences or workload issues
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of departmental web pages
  • Creates and updates informational signage and publications
  • Supports the workflow surrounding Interlibrary Loan requests, including documentation, training, processing and scanning
  • Under the Direction of Collections Strategy and Head of Access Services, and in collaboration with the Collections Management Group, may contribute to stacks and collection maintenance projects, including shifting collections, collections signage, and leading inventory projects
  • Performs opening and closing procedures.
  • In collaboration with and guidance from Library Technology Services staff, the Head of Access Services, and the Director of Public Services, provides Student Technology Consultants with evening and weekend support, including training on basic circulation and public services
  • In consultation with Library Technology Services staff, may prepare and/or oversee Student Technology Consultant work projects
  • In collaboration with the Campus Library Events Team, supports library events during evenings
  • Works strategically and collaboratively within and across functions and units
  • Participates in individual, Unit, and Library project work in order to facilitate and improve Library processes, activities, and services
  • Understands and abides by the Libraries Personal Communication Responsibilities. Communicates appropriately, effectively and positively. Plays an active role in staying informed and participating in Libraries and unit meetings, activities and events.
  • Serves on UW Libraries, Campus Library, and other institutional committees as needed
  • Performs other duties as required.
