About The Position

This role is for an independent alteration professional specializing in evening and cocktail wear. The primary duties involve altering various types of formal dresses, including evening gowns, cocktail dresses, and gala/black-tie attire. This includes tasks such as hemming, adjusting bodices and waists, modifying straps, adding or removing cups, and repairing zippers. The professional will be expected to work with complex structured formal dresses, which often feature multiple layers, lace, beading, sequins, and linings. Key aspects of the role also include conducting precise fittings, taking accurate measurements, and maintaining clear communication regarding timelines with clients. A high standard of finishing quality is required, and the professional must maintain an organized workspace suitable for client fittings. While the core focus is on evening and cocktail wear, there will also be opportunities to receive requests for alterations on wedding dresses, prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, suits, and other formalwear.

Requirements

  • Experience with women's formalwear and/or evening wear alterations
  • Strong garment construction knowledge + precision measuring
  • Machine + hand sewing proficiency
  • Professional communication and customer service
