About The Position

KVIA-TV is the dominant #1 station in the El Paso, Texas/Las Cruces, New Mexico market. We are owned by News-Press & Gazette – a family-run company that owns stations and other media outlets throughout the West and Midwest. El Paso is a dynamic city, in the heart of the mountainous desert southwest. It’s located where Texas, New Mexico and Juarez, Mexico meet. It’s called the Sun City – with more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The main anchor will review and present newscasts to viewers, produce & write special reports, represent station and community events, and produce if needed. KVIA-TV in El Paso/Las Cruces is a legacy station – we are looking for a newsroom leader, excellent communicator and a journalist who develops contacts and breaks stories.

Requirements

Solid written and verbal communications skills
Good presentation skills
5 years’ experience as an anchor & reporter
Job is contingent upon successful completion of a drug test and background check

Nice To Haves

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

Anchor evening newscasts (5pm, 6pm & 10pm)
Write and copy edit newscast scripts
Write and deliver news teases
Write and record radio updates for local radio station
Keep abreast of current local, national, and international news
Coach producers, reporters in storytelling, showcasing, balance, and ethics
Research, write and present special reports
Offer well-researched story ideas during editorial meetings
Keep in touch with the community and the type of stories that are helpful to viewers
Represent the station at public events and meetings
Write, produce & edit packages and special reports
Produce newscasts if needed
Other duties as assigned by management
