About The Position

The Evaluation Specialist (LSSP/Educational Diagnostician) is responsible for implementing the special education evaluation process. This role involves evaluating the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services or those needing re-evaluation. The specialist will provide diagnostic information and collaborate with instructional personnel, administrators, and parents to ensure appropriate programs for students with disabilities are in place.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in educational assessment or psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician certificate or valid license as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP).
  • Knowledge of procedures for evaluating educational achievement and intellectual functioning.
  • Knowledge of Cross Battery Assessment (XBA) and Response to Intervention (RtI).
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing evaluation and services for students with disabilities in Texas.
  • Strong consultation skills for conferencing with parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Proficient in technology for scoring and interpreting evaluation data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a public school setting providing full individual evaluations (FIE) for students referred to special education.
  • Experience in the ARD process utilized in Texas Public Schools.
  • Experience evaluating students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain punctuality and professional appearance.

  • Check out and return testing materials using identified inventory numbers.
  • Conduct initial and three-year evaluations for students on assigned campuses.
  • Write complete and accurate evaluation reports in accordance with TEA regulations.
  • Collect and organize relevant assessment data from various sources.
  • Attend ARD committee meetings to interpret test results and develop instructional strategies.
  • Schedule and conduct ARD meetings for initial placements and evaluations.
  • Assist classroom teachers and administrators with IEP and BIP development.
  • Review evaluation reports for transfer students and determine additional evaluation needs.
  • Complete data reports for PEIMS reporting and monitor accuracy of PEIMS data.
  • Become proficient in the district's electronic IEP/ARD paperwork.
  • Prioritize tasks and projects efficiently.
  • Maintain knowledge of special education law and evaluation instruments.
  • Compile and maintain all required reports and documents for special education eligibility.
