Unpaid Internship - Evaluation Intern Vacancy notice no: 2262 Sector: SG Department: OU Country of contract: Switzerland Duty station: Geneva Position number: [[positionNumber]] Grade: [[PositionGrade]] Type of contract: Internship Duration of contract: 6 months Recruitment open to: External Application deadline (Midnight Geneva Time): 12 March 2026 ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT The General Secretariat directs administrative, human and financial resources and activities of the Union, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication/ICT matters for operational and other purposes, and the provision of legal advice to the whole of the Union. The General Secretariat coordinates the implementation of the Strategic Plan, monitors the telecommunication/ICT environment and recommends as needed action relating to the Union’s future policies and strategy. The General Secretariat ensures inter-sectoral coordination and cooperation to advance a whole of ITU approach (One-ITU) in headquarters and the field. The General Secretariat provides logistical and information technology support to the Union’s activities including conferences and global forums; the coordination of the work of the Union with the United Nations system, and other international organizations; and the engagement of the Member States, Sector Members, and Academia. The General Secretariat manages corporate governance, and strategic communications and relations with the media, different stakeholder groups as well as the general public. The mission of the OU is to provide independent and objective audit, investigation and evaluation services designed to add value and improve the Organization’s operations and to enhance the integrity and reputation of the Organization across the whole ITU. The OU assists -in an independent manner- the ITU Secretary-General in the fulfilment of management, oversight and integrity responsibilities. The OU respects the federal structure of the ITU as enshrined in the Constitution and Convention and works with the three Bureaux in a cooperative manner. The OU is headed by a Chief of Oversight. The Oversight Unit enjoys functional and operational independence in performing its duties. TERMS OF REFERENCE Under the supervision of the Evaluation Specialist the Evaluation Intern will contribute to the Unit’s professional work in evaluation. This will be done under the guidance of Evaluation Specialist in OU/Evaluation (OU/E). The Evaluation Intern will discharge their functions in alignment with United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG) norms and standards. The intern will: Engagement Participate in the engagement processes and events with key stakeholders to promote uptake and use of evidence. Assist in convening key events and meetings with key stakeholders. Data collection Conduct interviews with Key Informants. Analysis Participate in interpretation of data, information and reports. Code textual data. Undertake descriptive and statistical analysis of secondary data. Administrative Support the scheduling of interviews. Take notes from meetings and summarize key discussion points. Products Review evaluation products, including: Proposals, Terms of Reference, Inception Reports, Learning event inputs, draft report, final evaluation report. Contribute to technical guidance. Draft slidedecks designed to communicate messages and information. Propose Standard Operating Procedures capturing processes, roles, responsibilities and sequencing of activities. Review and copy edit text/narratives. Contribute to the development of evaluation Terms of Reference. Co-write and review draft evaluation reports. Participate in the review of reports and documents as necessary. Develop Quality Assessment and Quality Assurance materials, tools, guidance in collaboration with Evaluation. Supporting evaluation processes Support Evaluation Specialist in undertaking Quality Assessment and Assurance of evaluation reports and products. Support the onboarding of evaluators. Undertake reviews of evaluation methods and identify potential candidates for specific evaluations. Support Evaluation Specialist in undertaking scoping activities.
