As an EV Technician A, you are a senior-level technician responsible for performing expert mechanical, electrical, and high-voltage repairs across electric and autonomous vehicle platforms. This role builds upon advanced EV expertise, requiring leadership in diagnostics, system calibrations, and module-level repairs. The Technician A serves as a mentor and technical resource for mid-level and entry-level technicians, providing guidance, training, and oversight for complex repair procedures.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of automotive service experience, including at least 3 years working with EV systems.
  • ASE certifications (6+ of A1–A8) are preferred; flex considered for candidates with technical degrees and advanced coursework in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience with high-voltage diagnostics, module replacement, and advanced system troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of battery management, CAN/LIN and Ethernet network communications, software-driven diagnostics, and calibration processes.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead mid-level and entry-level technicians.
  • The technician must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for up to 8 hours per shift and lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and vehicle systems, including HVAC, chassis, suspension, and steering components, following OEM specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) concerns using structured diagnostic processes.
  • Perform subframe replacements, drive unit replacements, and other advanced mechanical repairs as required.
  • Demonstrate competent electrical aptitude while diagnosing and repairing low-voltage and high-voltage systems.
  • Perform high-voltage system diagnostics and repair, including HV battery swaps, interlock loop troubleshooting, and BMS fault code analysis.
  • Execute high-voltage safety lockout/tagout procedures, including LV/HV isolation, in compliance with safety standards.
  • Replace high-voltage components such as onboard chargers, charge ports, and related systems.
  • Conduct advanced harness repairs, including cable, pigtail, and connector-level repairs.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics to identify and resolve system faults across vehicle control modules, including CAN/LIN and Ethernet networks.
  • Troubleshoot moderate software and firmware issues using OEM diagnostic tools, with some basic understanding of Python and SQL.
  • Perform firmware updates and validate proper system functionality post-update.
  • Conduct system calibrations following repairs or component replacements.
  • Support ADAS-related calibration processes in alignment with OEM procedures and safety standards.
  • Verify post-repair vehicle readiness through functional testing and validation.
  • Perform coolant evacuation, refill, and cooling system diagnostics for batteries, power electronics, and cabin HVAC.
  • Monitor battery degradation and manage HV battery discharge procedures safely and effectively.
