About The Position

Highland Electric Fleets’ electrification-as-a-service (EaaS) model aims to make electric school buses and other clean heavy duty vehicles attainable for every district across the US and Canada. Our turnkey solution tackles financing, vehicle procurement, infrastructure upgrade and maintenance to create a reliable and affordable fleet for our customers. We know that cleaner buses create healthier communities and it’s our mission to eliminate the barriers to better student health and cleaner air - just 10 electric buses will reduce the pediatric asthma risk for 1,500 students! We are looking for candidates that want to help support this mission. The Field Service Technician is enthusiastic about EVs and a self-starter who will work closely with customers to ensure that Highland’s electric vehicles and charging stations are working properly and that buses can get students to where they need to be. No day will look the same, but responsibilities will include performing original equipment manufacturer-approved testing, repairs, and troubleshooting customer issues. Highland will provide the relevant training to repair all local equipment including basic electric vehicle functions, Level 2 EV chargers to DC Fast Chargers, and communications equipment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5+ years Electrician, Electric Vehicle, or Medium/Heavy duty truck Fleet repair experience
• Advanced Diagnostic, Electrical, and AC skills required
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Knowledge of MS Suite products
• Possess the recommended tools for a Medium Duty technician as well as electrical diagnostics tooling
• Flexibility to work bus depot hours (early morning to afternoon) and weekends (when on scheduled shift)
• Clean Driving Record is required
• Requirements within 12 months of employment: Commercial Driver’s License Required / Minimum 3 ASE certifications required (bonus compensation available if greater) / and Minimum of 4 OEM Certifications required (bonus compensation available if greater)

Responsibilities

• Act as the company’s on-site advocate for EV’s and EVSBs, striving to achieve 90% overall uptime
• Represent the company at customer locations with the highest standards of professional conduct
• Retain a clean and safe work environment and bring any unsafe practices or conditions to management
• Diagnose malfunctions and perform electric vehicle and charger repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, etc.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements
• Test-drive vehicles to ensure repair resolved
• Maintain detailed and timely documentation for troubleshooting and repairs, records time and materials used for each assignment in asset management platform
• Assist in managing external support vendors to follow up and document repairs being made to Highland’s assets
• Provide repair and maintenance assistance to junior technician staff
• Perform road calls and on the road repairs as assigned
• Undergo electric vehicle and charger OEM and internal trainings
