Parking Management, Facilities, and Capital Projects Unit plays a vital role in the development, management, and operation of the City's municipal parking infrastructure, as well as sustainability initiatives at parking facilities. The unit is responsible for managing 8 multi-level parking garages and 30 municipal parking fields across the city. Our mission is to integrate sustainability practices and environmental safety into municipal parking facilities. The Facilities Management & Sustainability Projects Group is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Engineering Technician to assist in advancing the City's EV charging infrastructure and supporting key operational functions of municipal parking facilities. The selected candidate will play a vital role in both the planning and operational oversight of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, the general upkeep and inspection of parking structures, and the design of parking layouts and traffic devices. This position requires a combination of fieldwork, technical design support, data analysis, and vendor coordination.

  • Support the implementation of the citywide EV charging strategy by assisting with the installation, maintenance, and operational oversight of Level 2 and fast-charging stations.
  • Conduct site visits and field surveys of parking facilities, collect relevant data, generate maps, visualizations, and field reports.
  • Assist with inspections of parking garages and fields to ensure public safety and contract compliance.
  • Design parking layout and traffic equipment arrangements using AutoCAD and prepare/review technical drawings and specifications.
  • Support the preparation and review of engineering documentation, including proposals, contracts, cost estimates, and maintenance plans.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints submitted through 311, the Commissioner's office, elected officials, or directly from the public.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to monitor EV charger functionality, track operational performance, and ensure prompt issue resolution.
  • Perform additional administrative, analytical, and technical support tasks as needed.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as an engineering technician; or
  • An Associate degree from an accredited college or technical institution with a specialization in engineering technology; or
  • A combination of education and experience which is equivalent to two years of satisfactory experience.
  • For certain positions, a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software for design and layout work.
  • Experience working with EV charging equipment or related infrastructure is a strong plus.
  • Understanding of parking design standards, traffic flow, and facility safety considerations.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to clearly document findings and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently and in field conditions.
