About The Position

The Ethicist at Henry Ford Hospital is responsible for leading and maintaining an effective hospital ethics program, collaborating with the Ethics Committee, and managing the Ethics Consultation Service. This role emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and aims to improve care delivery while ensuring adherence to ethical standards in healthcare.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge and extensive experience in clinical ethics consultation (minimum 5 years).
  • Experience working with hospital Ethics Committees.
  • Demonstrated scholarly activity in clinical ethics.
  • Knowledge of healthcare ethics standards, laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience with ethics needs assessment and models of ethics processes.
  • Ability to collaborate with clinicians and organizational leadership.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Leadership skills to implement a region-wide ethics program.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain the hospital ethics program.
  • Work with the Ethics Committee to address ethical issues.
  • Manage the Ethics Consultation Service effectively.
  • Provide clinical ethics education to clinicians and staff in various settings.
  • Conduct ethics needs assessments and manage ethics resources.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and leadership to integrate ethics services within the institution.
  • Plan and accomplish multiple objectives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Direct and manage multiple complex projects with attention to detail.
  • Exhibit self-direction and good judgment in handling sensitive information.
  • Teach and develop others in clinical ethics.
  • Facilitate effective communication with diverse groups including patients, families, and medical staff.
