About The Position

Under the supervision of the Summer School Administration team, the ESY Special Education Teacher will review and implement Individualized Education Programs for students on their caseload. Special Education Teachers are expected to maintain a professional attitude toward their work and support the mission and goals of the school system. ESY Special Education teachers are assigned a caseload of students within the school site to oversee the implementation of the IEP and direct ESY paraeducators on instructional support for the students on your caseload.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent may be required.
  • Hold a current Professional Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certificate/license with a Special Education endorsement.
  • Two supervisory references will be requested prior to any offer of employment.
  • Ability to plan and implement effective lesson plans that meet the individual needs of the students on caseload
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Ability to manage student behavior in a positive manner
  • A complete application must be submitted including an official proof of education.
  • An official proof of education may be required (a copy of official HS Transcript/ HS Diploma, official college transcript from an accredited college or university approved by the US Department of Education). Education completed outside the United States must be evaluated by an MSDE approved organization.
  • A copy of the MSDE Special Education Teacher Certification
  • All employment and volunteer history from the past 10 years with no gaps including employment dates, position held, and name of the supervisor.
  • The applicant must be eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Plan for students and paraeducators in the classroom they are assigned to
  • Collect Data on identified IEP objectives to report on end of session Progress Reports
  • Collaborate with related service providers and special education summer team to ensure IEP is implemented with fidelity for each student
  • Maintains a safe environment
  • Create and use individualized materials provided for assigned students
  • When needed, support students within the bathroom and/or feeding during snacks and meals
  • Avoids engaging in or encouraging discussions of inappropriate or non-school-related topics
  • Become familiar with emergency procedures
  • Notifies school administration of any unusual incidents which have occurred during the school day
  • Reports suspected child abuse/neglect per Howard County Public School System policy
  • Other duties as assigned.
