About The Position

Overview: Schedule: 2nd shift- 10 hour shift, Full time, Benefits Eligible, Weekends Required Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required by hospital policy. Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines. Job Description Summary: Provides Armed Safety and Security services to assigned areas including, providing a heightened sense of awareness and response to events or conditions that may endanger patient, visitor, and staff safety. Augments law enforcement response to potentially dangerous situations in the hospital or on hospital grounds and responds safely, efficiently, and equitably to all related matters.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.
  • OPOTA 20hour Firearms Course Qualification. This qualification must be obtained BEFORE the Officer is approved to carry a firearm on duty for NCH.
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic and Advanced certifications. These Certifications must be obtained within the first six months in the position. Additional certifications, qualifications and training may be required, as assigned by the Director of Protective Services. All certifications must be maintained and kept up to date.
  • Ability to read and comprehend hospital and departmental policies and procedures, criminal statutes, and regulatory publications.
  • Ability to successfully conduct preliminary investigations and document findings on standard departmental or NCH forms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sufficient interview and integration skills with the ability to remain unbiased towards all individuals.
  • Sufficient interpersonal skills to enforce the policies of the department and hospital and the ability consistently and effectively intervene in interpersonal conflict.
  • Proficient use of VMS Video recording, Access Control Alarm system badge tracking, and other hospital systems.
  • Proficient use of firearms and deployment of CED’s (Conducted Energy Devices).
  • One year of experience as an NCH Protective Services Officer, required.
  • Experience working in high stress situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
  • OPOTA Private Security Academy and Firearms certification, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts random, frequent, patrols in assigned areas to detect and appropriately responds to safety and security issues or assists families.
  • Responds to critical incidents that require the capability for or use of armed force.
  • Collaborates with local law enforcement and documents activities and incidents.
  • Intervenes in interpersonal conflicts safely and effectively to maintain order.
  • Provides intervention or assistance through detention, restraint, or removal from the premises.
  • Conducts preliminary investigations regarding those incidents that amount to criminal acts or any Protective Services intervention including, running reports, badge tracing, operations, or investigations.
  • Attends various meetings regarding Security and Protective Services issues including, Code Violet, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and patient visitation restrictions.
