The Calvert Marine Museum is seeking qualified candidates interested in aquarium and marine sciences to fill their Estuarine Biology internship this summer. This internship position performs entry-level assistance with technical aquarium work caring for live specimens at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, Maryland. Duties include assisting aquarist staff in: maintaining exhibits, preparing animals’ diets, culturing live food, and/or fieldwork and field collection activities. Intern candidates should be High School graduates or possess a GED equivalent. Matriculated students with college course work in natural history or biology are preferred. Performs entry level assistance with technical aquarium work in caring for live specimens in the County’s Marine Museum. Work involves study and application of aquarium science and techniques to the feeding and caring of aquatic animals. Work involves public demonstration of live animals. Work is performed under technical supervision. Essential Job Functions Assists aquarium staff in ensuring that animals are maintained in a healthy, humane manner. Cleans aquariums and associated plumbing, pumps, and filters. Presents educational programs by demonstrating live animals at touch tank. Other Job Duties Performs related work as required.
