The Estimator position at UMC involves a comprehensive role in bidding and budgeting for various industrial projects, including piping, equipment, structural, civil works, HVAC/Air Systems, and complex mechanical systems. The estimator will coordinate activities from the receipt of plans to the final bid or proposal, ensuring that all aspects of the project are accurately accounted for. This role requires a deep understanding of union trade agreements and IG trade rate sheets, as well as the ability to prepare estimates from schematic to fully designed bid documents. The estimator will also be responsible for reviewing specifications and drawings, generating requests for bids from subcontractors and vendors, and participating in bid activities, including specialty quotes and equipment pricing. In addition to the primary responsibilities, the estimator will aid in the preparation of proposal letters and update current pricing and labor in the estimating program regularly. The role demands strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail. Regular attendance and promptness are essential, and the estimator may need to attend job walks to fully understand the scope of estimates. The position also involves assisting the Industrial Group Director in developing estimates and ROMs for clients, as well as estimating larger change orders as needed. The ideal candidate will possess technical knowledge of mechanical systems and construction methods, superior communication skills, and a basic understanding of construction accounting. A college degree or equivalent field experience, along with at least five years of estimating experience in the industrial or mechanical sector, is required. The estimator will also need to maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
