The Estimator position is responsible for seeking out appropriate projects to fulfill GP's market objectives and goals. This includes reviewing various sources of information for upcoming projects to bid, conducting pre-bid site investigations, and performing quantitative takeoffs for project estimates. The Estimator will define the project scope of work with management and the field operations group, prepare rough work schedules, and analyze potential issues such as resource constraints and schedule impacts. Additionally, the Estimator will prepare estimates using historical productivity and cost data, solicit subcontractor and material supplier quotes, and submit bid proposals in a timely manner. The role also involves contract administration support, providing operations with pertinent information, and promoting safety and customer service in all interactions.

  • Seeks out appropriate projects to fulfill GP's market objectives and goals.
  • Reviews various sources of information for upcoming projects to bid.
  • Conducts pre-bid site investigation/inspection to verify existing conditions.
  • Performs quantitative takeoffs for project estimates.
  • Defines project scope of work with management and field operations group.
  • Prepares rough work schedule for prime projects and analyzes for issues.
  • Prepares estimates including pricing out activity processes.
  • Reviews market trends to aid in determining optimum bidding strategy.
  • Solicits subcontractors and material supplier quotes.
  • Submits bid/estimate proposal in a timely manner.
  • Follows up on bid result status and obtains pricing information.
  • Completes post-bid review of project with pricing comparisons.
  • Provides contract administration support for prime & subcontracted projects.
  • Reviews subcontract agreements for alignment with quoted proposal.
  • Provides operations group with pertinent information to perform work.
  • Assists operations with large-scale change order requests.
  • Portrays a competent and professional image to customers.
  • Promotes awareness of and follows safety policies.
  • Exhibits a core understanding of mutual respect and good customer service.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • 2 years' experience in construction, preferably asphalt paving or 5 years other relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email.
  • Excellent math skills to review and analyze financial data.
  • Ability to read and understand financial forms and technical documents.
  • Blueprint reading required.
  • Valid driver's license and favorable traffic abstract required.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or PE preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective internal and external communications.
