About The Position

The Estimator role involves preparing cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing specifications and contract plans. The position focuses on achieving cost-efficient quantities and construction practices to meet project goals, including schedule and pricing. The estimator will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure accurate and comprehensive estimates that align with the company's strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in the construction industry, estimating, or cost control preferred.
  • Knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective support in research, recommendations, and pricing.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Time management and strong prioritization skills to meet tight turnaround and bid deadlines.
  • Growing knowledge of alternative construction delivery methods.

Responsibilities

  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity analysis reports into unit and person-hour figures.
  • Provide technical input regarding project and contract risks to the lead estimator responsible for final bid price approval.
  • Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and material quantity requirements from engineering drawing dimensions.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Monitor client addendum and advise the estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
  • Assist with design review options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Partner with the estimating team to prepare and conduct project hand-off meetings between the pursuit team and project management team.
  • Research and recommend vendors and subcontractors for designated scopes of work to achieve pursuit and cost goals.
  • Maintain knowledge of the company's values and strategic plan.
