About The Position

McGuire Builders, Inc. is a leading Southern California construction company specializing in hospitality construction, tenant improvements (TI), and restaurant and hotel renovation projects. With decades of experience, we pride ourselves on delivering projects of exceptional quality, on schedule, and with safety as our top priority. We are seeking an experienced Estimator with commercial and hospitality construction experience to join our Torrance-based team. This role is responsible for managing the full estimating process from initial document review through bid submission and handoff to the project team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, deadline-driven, and able to collaborate effectively with subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of estimating experience in commercial or hospitality construction
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry practices
  • Experience with renovation and tenant improvement projects preferred
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving ability

Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete estimating process from initial assessment through bid submission
  • Review and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Develop a thorough understanding of project scope, site conditions, and client requirements
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed cost estimates at conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document phases
  • Prepare comprehensive trade bid packages outlining scope of work for subcontractors
  • Solicit subcontractor participation and manage bid invitations
  • Proactively follow up with subcontractors to ensure timely receipt of complete and competitive pricing
  • Analyze and qualify subcontractor proposals, identifying discrepancies, exclusions, or scope gaps
  • Prepare detailed per-trade cost analysis reports
  • Participate in value engineering discussions to optimize project costs while maintaining quality standards
  • Attend job walks and site visits to assess existing conditions and project complexities
  • Develop bid strategies for hard bids, negotiated bids, budgets, and general conditions
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of all bid documents, communications, and correspondence
  • Present estimates, methodologies, assumptions, and risk analysis in bid review meetings
  • Collaborate with Project Management and Executive teams to align pricing with company objectives
  • Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and submitted within required deadlines
  • Support the transition and handoff of awarded projects to the operations team
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and best practices
