The Estimator will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, and promoting our full range of trucking, aggregate and materials services. This position requires travel to customer sites, prospecting new leads, and a strong understanding of the industry and quote trucking, aggregate and materials prices in the form of hourly, tonnage and per load pricing. The following is meant to provide a general overview of the essential job functions of the Outside Sales position and is not necessarily a complete and exhaustive list. Your duties for this position will include: · Update bid list daily from all sources available. · Identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities in need of freight and materials. · Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to ensure repeat business and long-term partnerships. · Conduct face-to-face meetings with prospective and current clients to understand their logistics needs and present tailored solutions · Update job bidding calendar daily and print and distribute a copy weekly. · Prioritize jobs to bid based on profitability and timelines. · Establish job folders and obtain information necessary for bidding each job. Items that may be included in each job folder: o Map of Project Location (all details of project site) o Quantities of materials being imported or exported o Customers’ bidding project o Job Address o Material types and specifications if we are to supply materials. o Type of trucks needed o What time of year the job will start o Other information as needed for bidding project o Schedule Truck Boss to drive miles from aggregate sources, to obtain distance and time for job estimating o You will save and organize these mileages for future use. · Call and discuss project with contractor’s bidding project as needed to determine any issues which need to be considered i.e., guard shack, proper gate to enter, special circumstances. · Put together job estimate (bid), using Excel bid program at least one month ahead of due date. o Keep updated list of successful bids · Review job with Sales Manager and President, change estimate if needed and send out to customers as directed. · Answer and take phone inquiries regarding materials · Track all bid projects and results. o Create and continually update filing system for active estimates and unsuccessful bids for future use. · Determine which contractor was successful on the bid. Follow up with call or email to find out if CMAT will be trucking project or if not, attempt to find out where competition pricing was in relationship to CMAT quote. · If CMAT was trucker of choice, send copy of estimate to office for inputting in computer. · Take customer requests for delivery of materials and coordinate with dispatch to determine if trucks are available to deliver materials. · Take customer orders and create delivery sheet and give to Dispatch. · Assist office personnel to make sure jobs are bid correctly in accordance with estimates. · Check daily dispatch sheet to see if any jobs on sheet might have been quoted and need to be put into the office computer system. · Any and all other duties as required or directed by the Sales Manager and/or President.
