About The Position

Spitzer, a recognized industry leader in designing and fabricating high-specification equipment, is currently seeking a Structural Estimator to join our team. The Structural Estimator reports to the Estimating Manager and is responsible for bidding projects pertaining to the design/build, engineering, fabrication, and assembly of structural components, process and modular systems. The candidate will be responsible for identifying risk, opportunities, and maintaining a strategic position during the estimating phase of the project.

Requirements

  • BS in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • 10+ years of Mechanical, Package, or Module Estimating Experience is required.
  • Command of general oil and gas process, LNG, Compression, as well as various other industry principles and calculations.
  • Must have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills involving a very broad array of estimating disciplines and organizational levels.
  • Knowledge of design, fabrication processes, and codes is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work alone or as a part of a team.
  • Lead and mentor estimator I and II team members.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision.
  • Understanding of ASME pressure vessels is required.
  • Instrument understanding is required.

Responsibilities

  • Uses a broad range of skills to estimate ASME pressure vessels and piping and AWSD1.1 structural steel skids.
  • Estimate advanced piping systems B31.1, 31.3, pressure piping, code piping, and all assortments of process piping for a variety of modular units.
  • Review and interpret preliminary client/project specifications.
  • Review and interpret preliminary structural, P&ID, vessel, isometric, and electrical drawings.
  • Co-ordinate with vendors, customers, and company personnel to gather all applicable costs for project completion.
  • Attend pre-award meetings with clients and internal project handoff meetings.
  • Confer with project stakeholders, operations, and management, vendors and various subject matter experts to elaborate a proposed project scope definition.
  • Gather data to perform a full lump sum 'take-off' of material, labor, and vendor costs needed to supply all materials/scope required for a project using design drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare proposals including structural steel, miscellaneous metals, detailing, and various other special conditions.
  • Understand and foresee complex fabrication scenarios and adjust to account for them in bid proposal.
  • Provide the estimating manager with written detailed Scope of Work that is to be submitted to management for review.
  • Provide the estimating manager with a detailed list of inclusions/exclusions and qualifications for use in a written proposal to the customer.
  • Work closely with the estimating manager to maintain the overall estimating department schedule.
