General Summary This position is responsible for developing accurate and timely proposals and estimates for both private and public sector works projects to ensure Granite is a responsive bidder. Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location and other factors to ensure a high quality and timely estimate. Review drawings, specifications and proposed project site conditions and conduct calculations requiring advanced analytical processes to ensure logically estimated costs are correct. Record findings and solicit input from field operations to include in final project estimate. Utilize existing cost history as a check to complete estimates. Perform accurate quantity “take-off’ to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates. Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings to ensure understanding of scope of job and critical means and methods of construction. Identify alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid. Develop and apply knowledge of bidding risks and strategies, develop knowledge of and relationships with owners, subcontractors, public and private entities to ensure competitiveness, and participate in estimate and bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness. Comprehend and administer a safety program that provides for a safe work environment that meets or exceeds Granite’s Annual Incident Goal and fosters a culture that expects participation at all levels. Create and promote appropriate environmental policies, rules, and understand the potential adverse effects to the environment due to operations.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience as a Lead Estimator, Project Engineer, or in a related position providing construction estimating support, engineering field support, and project estimating.
  • Experience must also include Analysis and evaluation of bidding risks; AGTEK Takeoff, HCSS Heavy Bid, HCSS Heavy Job, AutoCAD Lite
