About The Position

AMPAM is a leading Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) contractor serving large-scale multifamily and commercial projects across California. With 1,500 employees across multiple business units, we are committed to delivering quality, safety, and excellence in every project. The HVAC Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in multifamily residential construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems, construction drawings, and project specifications, with a focus on delivering timely and precise estimates that support project bidding and execution.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required with experience).
  • 3–5+ years of HVAC estimating experience, preferably in multifamily or commercial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, and mechanical codes.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., FastEST, QuoteSoft, Trimble) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to interface with customers, field staff, and subcontractors.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without future employment sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and scope documents to prepare detailed HVAC cost estimates.
  • Quantify materials, labor, and equipment required for multifamily housing projects.
  • Develop and submit competitive bids and proposals in coordination with the sales and project management teams.
  • Conduct site visits (as needed) to assess project conditions and verify scope.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and recommend cost-effective solutions.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, assumptions, and pricing data.
  • Prepare and present estimate summaries and cost breakdowns to internal stakeholders.
  • Track historical cost data to support future estimating accuracy and benchmarking.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to align estimates with project goals.
  • Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain up-to-date pricing and availability.
  • Support handoff meetings to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to project execution.
