Requirements

  • Strong computer proficiency (Excel, and other MS Office programs)
  • Experience with estimating software required
  • Must possess strong construction math skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to read blue prints
  • Estimating spreadsheet knowledge
  • Possesses advanced scheduling skills
  • Uses CRM regularly
  • Possesses solid leadership skills and demonstrated ability to train and mentor
  • Dedicated to 24/7 safety culture
  • Displays adherence to company operating principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills both with external and internal customers
  • Strong knowlege of our sales process
  • 5-10 yrs - Construction Management / Civil Engineering - Required
  • Able to pass a respirator fit test and wear a respirator when required on specific jobsites
  • Dexterity of hand and fingers to operate a computer, small hand-held power tools, office equipment
  • Required to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 25lbs without assistance
  • Physical capability to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
  • Able to speak and hear detailed information through oral communication
  • Has visual acuity to see items clearly and sharply and to recognize small detail
  • Ability to Travel - Up To 25%
  • Willing to work 50-55 hour per week and have flexible work hours
  • Willing to work at heights up to 650 feet off the ground
  • Willing to work in uncomfortable and extreme work conditions
  • Possess valid driver's license in order to operate rental cars when traveling for company business

Responsibilities

  • Defines and quantifies scope of work and prepares comprehensive conceptual, budgetary, and construction cost estimates for projects
  • Drafts formal letters & other written communication to customers/owners
  • Ensures pricing of materials and subcontracts are completed timely and accurately for assigned projects
  • Maintains involvement in change order process
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains involvement in uncovering sales opportunities with prospective and existing customers
  • Performs light marketing and business development responsibilities to generate new business opportunities
  • Ability to accurately organize take-offs, bid items, estimate set-up sheets, quotes and subcontractor comparisons, etc.
  • Prepares estimates by calculating various statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour and equipment costs and applying to complete scope of work
  • Provides assistance to project manager throughout the project
  • Resolves cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Reviews design options and recommends best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials when necessary
  • Reviews/researches historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compiles summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates
  • Possesses a strong ability to apply bid strategies (measured by experience / examples of work)
  • Demonstrates ability to develop relationships with clients - has demonstrated ability to maintain and grow existing relationships
  • Estimates projects with a high degree of complexity, generally up to $10million
  • Understands the concept of conceptual design build estimates
  • Creates preliminary CPM schedules
  • Possesses a moderate knowledge of local and regional markets, market pricing, volume of direct competitors' work on hand, etc
  • Mentors Estimator level 1 as well as PE's and interns
  • Negotiates with and relays desired scope of work and deadlines to subcontractors and materials suppliers
  • Possesses the ability to estimate up to 5 estimates as a lead estimator and up to 5 estimates indirectly (as a mentor)
  • Plans for safety within estimate buildup, addressing access, fall protection, costs, quantities of PPE, special training or certification requirements, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop complex technical proposals - skills include: scope, clarifications and pricing development and sales strategy incorporation
  • Ability to read contract specifications and requirements
  • Ability to read plans and blueprints
  • Demonstrated capability to evaluate, quantify and filter/capture specification requirements of moderate complexity within the estimate.
  • Demonstrated capability to negotiate basic contract / subcontract T&C.
  • Ability to evaluate risk and loss exposure on projects estimated
  • Demonstrates ability to take a lead role in developing estimates and demonstrates the ability to mentor other estimators (level 1)
  • Promotes 24/7 Safety Culture and exhibits a Safety 24/7 attitude in all situations
  • Is extremely safety conscious in all situations
  • Sets an example for others by demonstrating that safety is a core value
  • Wears all Personal Protection Equipment required by safety specifications when visiting jobsite/shop
