About The Position

Overview: The Estimating Systems Trainer is responsible for editing, delivering, and continuously improving Alterman’s Accubid Estimating Software program. This role ensures that new and existing Estimators, Project Managers, and Assistant Project Managers are proficient in Accubid processes and procedures, supporting consistent take-offs and alignment across all regions and profit centers. Essential Functions: 1. Program Development & Delivery: 35% Maintains and enhances Alterman’s estimating software training curriculum, incorporating company processes, industry standards, and best practices. Coordinates with subject matter experts (estimators, project management, purchasing, labor, workforce solutions, etc.) to develop, schedule, and deliver targeted training sessions for groups and individuals. Facilitates in-person instruction and workshops for Estimating and Project Management staff. Provides instruction on Accubid software functionality including job set up, drawing integration, take-off tools, database navigation, pricing adjustments, and change order tools. 2. Process & Standards Alignment: 15% Ensures all training content aligns with Alterman’s estimating processes and system usage standards. Further develops and updates standard Estimating operating procedures (SOPs) and training documentation. Promotes consistent software workflows to support standardized take-offs and estimating practices across Alterman’s estimating teams. Reviews and revises the training materials (under the supervision of the Estimating VP / Director) annually to reflect changes in codes, tools, software, or industry best practices. 3. Performance & Evaluation: 15% Evaluates training effectiveness through metrics such as onboarding ramp time, take-off consistency, reduction in estimating errors, and feedback from job performance outcomes. Tracks training completion and estimating readiness. Identifies skill gaps across the estimating and project management teams and implements targeted training interventions. 4. Database Maintenance: 20% Leads monthly database pricing updates to ensure pricing alignment with Purchasing. Revises database take-off assemblies as needed and as directed by Estimating Leadership, ensuring consistently accurate take-off. Maintains and enhances database take-off pads to ensure alignment with system-generated take-offs, supporting estimate accuracy and efficiency. 5. Performs other duties as assigned by management.15%

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn and apply new software platforms required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong aptitude for learning and teaching technical software systems.
  • Able to translate complex software functionality into clear and practical training for end users.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to teach and coach effectively.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, or other related software.
  • Able to analyze training needs and develop customized solutions that address specific business challenges.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training or degree in Construction Management preferred.
  • Experience facilitating training, developing instructional materials, or supporting user adoption of software systems preferred.
  • Exposure to construction estimating processes or construction management environments is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with estimating software such as Accubid or similar systems is preferred; formal Accubid training will be provided for candidates without prior experience.
