Estate & Business Succession Planning Attorney
About The Position
Goosmann Law Firm is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Estate & Business Succession Attorney to join our estate planning and corporate law practice. This role is ideal for an attorney with a strong background in complex estate planning matters, closely held business structures, and succession planning for high-net-worth individuals and business owners. This is a client-facing role that involves working closely with family-owned businesses, executives, and entrepreneurs to design sophisticated, tax-efficient plans that preserve wealth across generations.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active bar membership required in one, but preferred in more, of the following Nebraska, Iowa and/or South Dakota.
- 5–10+ years of experience in estate planning, business succession planning, or a related field
- Familiarity with business entity structures (LLCs, S-corps, partnerships) and ownership transfer mechanisms
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with high-net-worth clients and business owners
- Proven ability to manage complex planning projects independently or as part of a team
Nice To Haves
- LL.M. in Taxation preferred but not required
- CAP designation a plus
Responsibilities
- Advise clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax strategies
- Develop and implement comprehensive business succession plans for family-owned and closely held businesses
- Structure and draft estate planning documents, including complex trusts (e.g., GRATs, ILITs, SLATs, IDGTs)
- Coordinate with clients’ financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to deliver integrated planning solutions
- Analyze and plan for liquidity needs and tax liabilities personally and related to business interests
- Assist with lifetime gifting strategies, intra-family transfers, entity restructuring, and charitable planning
- Stay current on federal and state tax law developments impacting estate and succession planning
