About The Position

The job of a ML/ESOL teacher is done for the purpose/s of teaching Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students; assisting the general education teacher to improve student achievement; addressing appropriate standards, content materials, technology and resources; and using research-based teaching strategies and best practices to address the needs of Multilingual (ML) students. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Requirements

  • Knowledge to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes knowledge and experience teaching LEP students with an enthusiasm for instructing students desired.
  • Skills to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include applying effective and innovative LEP instructional and student evaluation techniques and developing interpersonal relationships with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the public, outstanding verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
  • In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited.
  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions and working with other teachers to promote interdisciplinary studies.
  • South Carolina certification in appropriate area required with a strong GPA in relevant coursework.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided

Responsibilities

  • Instructs LEP students for the purpose of improving their success in academic and interpersonal skills.
  • Develops lessons that address grade level and content standards for the purpose of designing engaging work for LEP students.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of LEP students’ progress for the purpose of supporting teachers’ expectations, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses student progress, expectations, goals, etc., for the purpose of determining LEP student acquisition of knowledge and of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Assists other teachers of LEP students for the purpose of implementing an appropriate curriculum for LEP students.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of LEP student outcomes, developing solutions, and planning curriculum.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual LEP students.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  • Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting LEP student progress.
  • Develops lessons that address grade level and content standards for the purpose of designing engaging work for LEP students.
  • Working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget.
  • Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions.
  • Other duties may be assigned for the benefit of the district.
