An Extensive Support Needs (ESN) Direct Support Professional (DSP) caregiver provides direct support, positive direction, instruction, and assistance to individuals with mental, intellectual & developmental, and physical disabilities. The ultimate goal is to empower individuals with disabilities to live as independently and comfortably as possible while maintaining their dignity and respect. Our ESN programs are located in Flora! Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on assistance, encouragement, mentoring, and guidance.
  • Ensure the comfort, safety, and personal growth of the individuals we serve.
  • Assist with daily living tasks such as moving around, getting in and out of bed, dressing, bathing, personal hygiene and more.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks and meal preparation.
  • Build relationships with persons served and teammates.
  • Attend special community occasions and fun activities like outdoor walks, games, and social events.
  • Transport persons served to appointments or other activities outside the home.
  • Empower people with disabilities to live life to the fullest.
  • Document progress, milestones, and action steps.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with intense high behaviors, both verbal and physical.
  • Experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health, behavioral, and/or significant medical challenges.
  • Patient, with good decision making and crisis management skills.
  • Dependable, adaptable, and flexible.
  • Observant and detail oriented.
  • Positive role-model for others and able to work on a team.
  • Committed to creating a respectful and collaborative environment.
  • Computer skills for documentation.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Successful clearance of a criminal background check for licensing requirement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior IDD, mental health, psychiatric, and/or security experience.
