About The Position

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor works under the direction of the Public Schools of Brookline's ELE Director to provide tutoring in English acquisition skills for students at one private school. The tutor supports each student's language development, with a focus on vocabulary use, reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. The ESL Tutor motivates students to apply their growing language skills in each school subject area and in their social interactions.

Requirements

  • Licensed in ESL/ELL by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults
  • Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the district ELE Director may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides English language tutoring in vocabulary, reading, writing, and speaking throughout the school day per the schedule designed by the Principal or their designee in collaboration with the tutor (must be available between 8:00 am to 3:00 pm);
  • Continuously monitors students' understanding of the tutoring content and adjusts instruction as needed;
  • Utilizes appropriate technology to assist students in the acquisition of knowledge and skills in English; and
  • Other duties, as assigned.
