About The Position

[http://www.refugees.org/] OVERVIEW The ESL Instructor provides specialized instruction for various state and federally funded programs intended to engage a diverse population of learners. For the purposes of developing refugees and immigrants’ ability to effectively perform courses of study in English and acquire the English language.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferable in Education or related discipline (Or with a minimum of three years TESOL experience is required)
  • Availability to work on a variable schedule, including the likelihood of teaching on nights and weekends
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate and build lasting relationships and partnerships with program and field office staff
  • Sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel and database programs
  • Ability to facilitate group discussion, analyze situations, and draw conclusions
  • Highly adaptable and flexible with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding work environment
  • Must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards
  • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so as to ensure that learners meet and exceed learning targets
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages the learner responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of the learner
  • Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating the learners progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
