About The Position

Provide English as a second language (ESL) services and reading interventions for ESL students across multiple campuses as assigned, based on department needs. Collaborate directly with teachers to improve linguistic accommodations and dual language instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs). Duties include staff development, modeling, coaching, and ongoing teacher empowerment to implement best practices that result in student mastery of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with ESL certification/endorsement
  • Experience providing linguistic accommodations and a deep understanding of ELPS second language acquisition methodologies, curriculum, instructional strategies, and dual language components
  • Expertise in implementing the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Possess a broad knowledge regarding curriculum content and teaching strategies with specific content knowledge at multiple levels of instruction
  • Ability to instruct ESL students to academic mastery
  • Ability to apply and implement brain/based, differentiated, and individualized learning methods
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of review and assessment practices
  • Effective coaching, problem-solving, and conferencing skills
  • Exhibit a high proficiency in computer usage and instructional technology
  • Display a strong ability to work independently as a self-starter with excellent time
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and learning, and being an effective professional model

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (preferred)
  • Three (3) years of ESL teaching experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide ESL services and bilingual interventions for struggling ELLs (Spanish interventions for bilingual students and English interventions for ESL students).
  • Mentor, observe, and coach classroom teachers to improve dual language and ESL instruction.
  • Demonstrate and model exemplary, research-based lessons reflecting differentiated instruction, dual language components, and linguistic accommodations for ESL teachers.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans in collaboration with teachers that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum Scope and Sequence, TEKS, Dual Language Lesson Cycle, and ELPS.
  • Participate in regular planning and DLE committee meetings with campus teachers to offer ongoing support.
  • Evaluate and monitor ELLs to place students in appropriate intervention and support services.
  • Participate in regular assessment of student TEKS objective-mastery and provide follow-up intervention.
  • Design and deliver staff development that meets student and campus needs.
  • Assess students with oral language proficiency tests.
  • Maintain updated records, reports, and other documents required: LPAC & TELPAS process.
  • Work synergistically with teachers and the bilingual/ESL department.
  • Attend up-to-date professional development and bilingual/ESL department meetings and build on their current academic expertise as practitioners in the field.
  • Assist the bilingual/ESL department in researching, developing, and writing the Spanish curriculum for PreK-5.
  • Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty/department meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the department, campus, and district.
