About The Position

Primary Purpose: The ESL Paraprofessional s primary responsibility is to support the school’s ESL program students in meeting academic and social/emotional goals. The ESL Paraprofessional provides services to students both in a regular classroom setting and through a pull-out/push-in program model. The ESL ensures appropriate documents related to ESL services are successfully implemented in the instructional setting (e.g. accommodation/ modification requirements set by the LPAC committee) by ensuring the classroom teacher fully understands the documents. The ESL Paraprofessional also provides instructional small group or one-on-one support to identified students during the independent practice portion of a classroom lesson and through a co-teach model. The ESL Aide assists in preparing LPAC paperwork and Las Link testing paperwork. The ESL Aide also assists in supervising EL students during TELPAS and Las Links testing. The ESL Paraprofessional also assists the Dean of Special Services/APSS with providing teachers with needed professional development support, especially for new teachers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • ESL certification (preferred)
  • Minimum of 48 hours of higher education required
  • High School Diploma required
  • At least one year of ESL paraprofessional experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of working with Limited English Proficient students
  • Understanding of a pull-out/push-in model of instructional support
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures associated with EL support requirements
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Ability to follow assignment duties as directed by the Dean of Special Services/APSS
  • Demonstrate a passion for and commitment to EPLA’s mission and educational model
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Personal qualities of maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the development of LPAC paperwork
  • Assists with the instructional delivery of content in both a regular education classroom setting or a pull-out program setting
  • Provides small-group and/or one-on-one support to students based on their identified annual language proficiency levels
  • Ensuring classroom teachers are appropriately implementing student accommodations/modifications
  • Maintaining a log of contact hours with each student assigned
  • Completing and submitting weekly time-sheets to the Dean of Special Services or APSS; whichever is applicable
