Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia - principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the county of Greene. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). The position is for an ESL Instructor at the TJACE Learning Center at IX Park. This is a part-time, hourly position requiring on-site availability, as classes are held in person with students.

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meets state and federal standards.
  • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with TJACE@PVCC's instructional program.
  • Develop and deliver lessons that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies to meet the needs and goals of students.
  • Address all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies/content.
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
  • Participate in the program's Professional Learning Community and staff meetings.
  • Bachelor's Degree and ESL teaching experience required.
  • Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • The ability to keep accurate records.
  • The ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment.
  • The ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans.
