About The Position

The English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish Teacher will design and teach lessons to develop students understanding of written and spoken English and Spanish Languages. This teaching position includes teaching oral and written English and Spanish, tailoring lesson plans to individual students or classes, and setting homework, assessments and grading. This teacher should be passionate about the English and Spanish languages and cultures and needs to be energetic and able to inspire passion for the language in their students.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and reslilient.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and able to handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to use a flexible and adaptive teaching style.
  • Ability to effectively teach students whose verbal or written communication skills are limited.
  • Thorough understanding of language development and strategies for teaching language.
  • Bachelor's Degree in the content area or enrolled in a program leading towards obtaining such degree required.
  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process with appropriate endorsement or a valid Colorado Substitute Teaching License and enrolled in a program working toward alternative licensure
  • (must upload license or in process documentation to application).
  • Bilingual ability; English and Spanish required

Responsibilities

  • Assess students existing comprehension of and fluency with written and spoken English and Spanish Languages.
  • Designs dynamic lessons to assist students in learning and gaining confidence with English and Spanish vocabulary, syntax, and pronunciation.
  • Provides instruction in small groups when necessary and practical.
  • Providing conversational classes where pronunciation and important words and phrases are taught.
  • Conducting research on teaching methods, materials, and language games that can be used in class.
  • Organizing feedback sessions with students and their parents if applicable.
  • Collaborate and co-teach with mainstream classroom teachers .
  • Assess and progress monitor the language development and academic performance of ESL and Spanish students in conjunction with mainstream classroom teachers.
  • Serve as a building resource for administrators and classroom teachers.
  • Serve as an advocate for English and Spanish Language Learners and their families.
  • Ensure that English and Spanish Language Learners receive language development appropriate for their level of English and Spanish proficiency.
  • Model, support and promote rigorous instruction and high standards for ESL and Spanish students.
  • Connect and collaborate with administrators, families and students.
  • Shall be skilled in technology and is knowledgeable about using technology to support instruction and enhance student learning to individualize instruction.
  • Upholds all policies, rules and regulations, standards, and expectations that may be established by the state and federal authorities, and immediate supervisor.
  • Maintains records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations in a timely and confidential manner.
