About The Position

NorthStar Academies in Palm Springs, FL is seeking an ESE Teacher for Palm Beach Preparatory Charter Academy! The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher manages instructional programs for students with special needs as part of the IDEA grant. The ESE Teacher consults regularly with students and parents through phone, internet, and various electronic mediums, to ensure that each student successfully completes his/her instructional program. The ESE Teacher participates in all steps of the IEP process. The ESE Teacher works closely with other teachers and district professionals to ensure that the school’s special education program is successful and operating in compliance with federal, state and district regulations. The teacher works alongside the ESE Coordinator and other members of the instructional team in order to meet the needs of the school and for the school to remain compliant by providing consultative and collaborative expert services in support of the ESE and schoolwide program. The building of relationships is a critical component of this environment, the team works together to identify and address student needs that may be barriers to success.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Arts or Science Degree in Special Education, or in related field of Education
  • Valid Florida Professional Special Education Teacher certification
  • Minimum three (3) years of Special Education teaching experience
  • Willing to acquire a Reading Endorsement and add to state certification
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience in policy (IDEA) and / or administration with special education

Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the General Education Teacher, manage and provide instructional guidance and support for a caseloads of students
  • Assist in the writing and implementation of students’ Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans
  • Administers and evaluates tests and assessments, completes report cards, and conducts parent conferences
  • Provides General Education Instructors with research-based ESE strategies / accommodations in accordance with each student’s Present Level of Performance and IEP goals, to best meet the individual needs of Students with Disabilities (SWD)
  • Communicate regularly with parents of students with special needs to ensure IEP goals are met and addressed in accordance with the IEP timeline
  • Participate in consultation and provide collaborative services as determined by each student’s IEP
  • Provide direct services to students including services delivered in-person or through web-conferencing software as needed
  • Assist the ESE Specialist with the implantation and maintenance of the IEP process i.e. schedule, organize, and conduct IEP meetings and associated evaluations
  • Assist with the organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in the school and district’s Learning management system and special education software
  • Assist with administering state testing and coordinating special accommodations that are required based on students’ IEP goals
  • Monitor academic progress of students in their coursework
  • Monitor student progress towards graduation
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents, staff, and community as needed
  • Become proficient in the use of computer based instruction and software
  • Keep accurate documentation in IEP folders regarding student progress, needs, strengths, grades, observations, anecdotal records, and other related data
  • Maintain student records and files in a confidential manner
  • Manage the learning environment and coach students as an advisor and mentor
  • Engage students to ensure a lively classroom atmosphere
  • Execute lessons effectively and efficiently using multiple ESE research-based instructional strategies
  • Contribute to a culture of professionalism among team members
  • Coordinating various activities with agencies providing services to students with disabilities
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Principal
