About The Position

The EH&S Specialist - Occupational Health & Safety is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) and occupational health programs to protect workers, the public, and the environment. This role involves managing key ES&H initiatives, providing support for compliance-driven needs, and overseeing various Occupational Health programs, including First Aid/CPR-AED and medical monitoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Science, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field.
  • 3-5 years of job-related experience in medical laboratory science, occupational health, safety, or industrial hygiene.
  • Experience in programmatic assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, and safety training.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene, radiation protection, and safety practices.
  • Ability to apply Occupational Health principles to comply with 10 CFR requirements.

  • Experience in outreach and engagement activities for Occupational Health programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional support to the Occupational Health Program in implementing federal and state occupational medicine mandates.
  • Performs injury, first aid, and near miss investigations.
  • Revises and develops the ORAU Accident Investigation and Prevention Program.
  • Manages the First Aid/CPR-AED program and serves as a certified trainer.
  • Develops and conducts outreach activities for the ES&H Program Support Center and Occupational Health Program.
  • Evaluates and interprets current regulations/standards to ensure compliance and prevent hazards.
  • Recommends changes in the work environment based on data interpretation.
  • Manages the Random Drug Screen database for DOE cleared employees and consultants.
  • Provides support for Random Drug Screens and Security Clearance Drug Screens.
  • Manages the ORAU Smoke Free Workplace Policy and updates as necessary.
  • Coordinates pre-employment physical requirements and medical monitoring for employees.
  • Performs exposure assessments, compliance reviews, and inspections for ES&H and Occupational Health programs.
  • Conducts ergonomic assessments and provides training on ergonomic practices.
