About The Position

The ES&H Senior Technical Advisor is responsible for establishing and managing the activities of all groups/employees to ensure efficient and timely completion of assigned missions. This role involves interfacing with all levels of workers and senior leadership both within and external to the Y-12 organization, including local, State, and/or Federal regulators, and DOE representatives. The advisor provides strategic leadership and is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of comprehensive environmental protection, worker health and safety, or radiation safety programs. The position requires establishing schedules to meet completion dates and technical specifications, making policy interpretations, reviewing and coordinating staff output, resolving personnel and technical problems, and managing staff assignments to meet goals and objectives. The advisor also supports organizations with professional consultation regarding compliance with environmental, safety, and health issues, assesses and implements security, safety, regulatory, and environmental policies, and recommends improvements in program procedures and technology utilization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM related major or equivalent in business administration, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, health physics, or environmental engineering with 12 years relevant experience.
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • PhD with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Broad experience in environmental safety and health disciplines, including Industrial Hygiene and Radiological Control.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing personnel.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to interpret ES&H regulations and direct ES&H programs.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate team efforts.
  • Advanced computer skills (e.g., Excel and Access).
  • Knowledge of energy, safety, and environmental requirements for Federal facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred with 10 years relevant experience.
  • DOE experience preferred.
  • Project/program management experience preferred.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
