About The Position

The Accounts Payable Supervisor will oversee the daily accounting and purchasing operations within the Accounts Payable/Payroll section of the Finance Division. This role involves supervising the Accounts Payable team, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and serving as the Backup Payroll Officer. The position requires a high level of initiative and independent judgment, working under the direction of the Assistant Director of Finance.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, or a business-related field.
  • One to two years of experience as a supervisor or team lead.
  • One to two years of full-time experience in advanced accounting, financial analysis, or related experience requiring compilation.
  • One year of experience with yearly financial closing tasks (e.g., recording accruals, reconciling outstanding payables, and encumbering expenditures).
  • One year of experience with an Accounting system.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Accounting experience with a government agency
  • Experience with CAPPS/PeopleSoft Financials
  • Experience with Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) - HR modules.
  • Experience with Comptroller of Public Accounts Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS)

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the work of the accounts payable staff and assigns and monitors work.
  • Sets performance standards, coaches, and conducts employee evaluations.
  • Coordinates activities with divisions, the State Comptroller, and external auditors.
  • Reviews accounting activities, including transactions and reports prepared by the accounts payable staff.
  • Communicates and coordinates with internal and external contacts regarding operational invoices and benefit claims reimbursements.
  • Analyzes data, calculates statistics, and prepares routine and ad-hoc reports as requested by management.
  • Develops policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and good internal control practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
