About the position

The position involves analyzing, investigating, and adjusting tax documents and payments for various tax types, while also identifying and resolving complicated issues within the tax system. The role emphasizes continuous improvement and compliance with laws and regulations related to taxation. Employees are expected to engage in self-directed research and participate in team activities to enhance effectiveness and contribute to process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, investigate, and adjust tax documents and payments for one tax type.
  • Identify, examine, and correct tax documents and payments that the tax system failed to validate.
  • Update and/or amend standard operating procedures for specified tax type.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and communicate with taxpayers, team members, and supervisors to resolve return/payment errors.
  • Process low volume returns in the system.
  • Remain current on all laws, regulations, policies, and best practices related to taxation.
  • Attend staff meetings and huddles of work unit or district.
  • Complete all required training in a timely manner.
  • Participate in assigned work teams as appropriate.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in 1:1 coaching with supervisor.
  • Maximize work processes and deliverables through lean principles within the Arizona Management System (AMS).

Requirements

  • Any combination that meets the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA); typical ways KSAs are obtained may include a relevant degree from an accredited college or university such as Associate's Degree, training, coursework, and work experience relevant to the assignment.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of banking credits and debits, accounting and taxation.
  • Knowledge of the integrated tax system (TAS) and applicable statutes.
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, average, percentage, and interest.
  • Effective organization and time management skills.
  • Proficient in the use of a PC in a Windows environment and MS Office Applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in research and analytics of complex tax situations.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma and/or LEAN.
