About The Position

Memphis Veterinary Specialists and Emergency is currently seeking an Emergency LVT (Day Shift) to join their team! Our emergency team is looking to add to our already fun and hard-working group of assistants and technicians! Our emergency department is a 24-hour service with attachments to 5 other specialty departments. Our team is packed with knowledgeable, fun, a little goofy, and career-focused staff and doctors looking for just the right person to join us! Position Overview: The Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or the Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT) required.
  • Experience in ER is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the preparation, monitoring, and recovery of pets receiving surgery.
  • Ability to demonstrate and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology.
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to lift or carry moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds).

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care by providing fast and organized emergency triage and diagnostic procedures.
  • Assist during surgery and operations, providing nursing care.
  • Assist with feeding and caring for patients.
  • Maintain medical supplies and equipment.
  • Oversee inpatient care and discharging patients.
  • Maintain patient medical records.
  • Determine animal requirements by conducting brief exams and collecting pertinent medical histories.
  • Review care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, wound care, and post-operative monitoring for critically ill patients.
  • Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments.
  • Communicate with the pet owner about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
  • Release pets to their owners as directed; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed before their release.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
