Performs a wide variety of technical patient care activities and clerical support related to patients admitted to Emergency Services. Assists nursing personnel by performing routine patient care activities.
Assists physicians and nursing staff in the treatment of patients in Emergency Services.
Transportation of patients to floor and unit per wheelchair or stretcher.
Perform phlebotomy as directed per emergency physicians.
Responsible for stocking all assigned areas, including linens, and completing shift check off sheets.
Responsible for prioritizing and processing requested orders either written or telephoned to an authorized, licensed patient caregiver for diagnostic procedures.
Requests hospital beds for admit patients, and scans admit orders to pharmacy; retrieve results and old records from Access Anywhere, HH EMR's, Medical records.
Request medical records from outlying facilities with proper authorization signed; facilitate referrals/transfers with appropriate paperwork.
Notify Code Line for trauma alerts; Maintain appropriate forms and supplies at nursing stations; Keep working area clean and orderly.
Assists physician in location of patients; gives status of requested diagnostic procedures to authorized person.
Receives incoming telephone calls, answering questions, directing to appropriate person or taking messages.
Answers patient calls through Patient Call System and notifies appropriate personnel.
Documents patient care activities in Med Host according to department policy.
Assists with maintaining the department for continual readiness according to regulatory and organizational standards.
Completes annual requirements within specified time frame.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Prior medical experience preferred.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
Must be familiar with emergency procedures, legal requirements and standard nursing procedures.
Must be certified in BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Knowledge of hospital forms and patient identification equipment preferred.
Must have a working knowledge of medical terminology.
Must be familiar with multi-line telephone systems, copy machine, computer and fax machines.
Must be proficient in excel and word with the ability to learn new programs quickly.
Must be able to use effective interpersonal skills when working with a variety of people and situations.
