About The Position

As an ER Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, you will work under direct supervision to perform routine patient care duties in the Emergency Services department. Your role will involve assisting in treatment rooms and ensuring that all nursing care standards are adhered to while promoting teamwork among co-workers. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to patient health care, documentation, equipment management, and administrative support.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six months (1,040 hours) experience in Hospital Acute Care or Emergency Department as an EMT or Paramedic.
  • Paramedic Certificate (California) OR Emergency Medical Technician Certificate (California).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of PC or mainframe computer systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Competency performing 12 lead EKG.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete documentation and function as an information source for patients when appropriate.
  • Instruct patients on general health and basic self-care procedures.
  • Review, explain, and clarify physician orders with patients or parents.
  • Administer patient first aid and apply orthopedic appliances.
  • Execute treatments such as urinary catheterizations, bladder irrigations, and suctioning procedures.
  • Follow standard infection control procedures and give enemas.
  • Initiate emergency procedures (including CPR) and provide emergency patient treatment.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and observe machine monitors.
  • Perform inhalation therapy and prepare patients for procedures.
  • Respond to Code Blues and record patient vital signs.
  • Obtain patient specimens and prepare samples for lab analysis.
  • Transport patients and laboratory specimens to designated areas.
  • Ensure equipment is available for procedures and maintain a clean work area.
  • Train and orient new or less experienced personnel.
  • Answer call lights and take messages at the nurses' station.
